A very scientific princess meets a frog she is determined to turn into a prince – with the assistance of a troupe of Celestial Tap-Dancing Taoist Masters. In this saucy ‘n’ swingin’ new musical, will Clementine get the Prince of her dreams, or will she find herself in bed with just another horny toad? It’s a bedtime story with a bawdy twist! Based on the Stephen Mitchell novella The Frog Prince.

CULTURESCAPES CHINA 2010
Switzerland

Culturescapres is a festival which runs from September 16 through December 7, 2010 in Switzerland. Over 400 Chinese artists will perform in the fields of music, theater, performance, literature, film and art. Coco Zhao and fellow ACC grantee Wu Na will perform with Sonic Calligraphy. The Record: Contemporary Art and Vinyl features work by 41 artists from around the world, from the 1960s to the present, who use vinyl records as subject or medium. The exhibition includes sound work, sculpture, installation, drawing, painting, photography, video and performance.

The Record includes rising stars in the contemporary art world (William Cordova, Robin Rhode, Dario Robleto), outsider artists (Mingering Mike), well-established artists (Jasper Johns, Ed Ruscha, Carrie Mae Weems) and artists whose work will be shown in a U.S. museum for the first time (Kevin Ei-ichi deForest, Jeroen Diepenmaat, Taiyo Kimura, Lyota Yagi).

In one of NewTown’s most ambitious gallery shows, eleven digital natives and media pioneers appropriate the ubiquitous tools of media into cutting-edge, highly personal, curiously accessible experimental art forms. Convergences seamlessly integrates media with sculpture and installation in a cumulatively immersive experience, a multi-station journey through a labyrinth of experiences, interactions, aesthetics and technologies, from garage pillaged elegance to experimental circuitry, guaranteed to stimulate eyes, ears and imaginations. Featuring works by: Nancy Buchanan and Ismael De Anda, Claudia Bucher, Robert Ladislas Derr, Heidi Kumao, Katja Loher, Lisa Mann, Ann Oren, Steve Shoffner, Rachel Siegel, Trixy Sweetvittles, and Laura Yilmaz.

First Film
A documentary film on the history of Nha San Studio, Vietnam’s first experimental art space in Hanoi. Featuring footage of previous shows of pioneering artists Truong Tan, Nguyen Minh Phuoc, Nguyen Minh Thanh alongside younger artists such as Nguyen Phuong Linh and Kim Ngoc, this documentary is a unique opportunity to hear of how artists have discovered their own methods of realizing their dreams in Vietnam.

Second Film
Short film works produced by The Propeller Group. A Vietnamese artist collective based in Ho Chi Minh City who have been collaborating with Danish artist collective, Superflex, since 2004. In these three works, a McDonald’s shop slowly floods, a car self combusts and a man slowly hypnotizes the public. The Propeller Group will share their experiences of working between the world of ‘art’ and ‘entertainment’, sharing their views on why art should be available for a mass audience.

This will be an afternoon sharing two very different, yet important scenes of artistic experimentation in Vietnam. All are welcombe to join in subsequent discussion.
