Myra Beltran

The ACC awarded Myra Beltran a three-month grant to undertake an arts management internship at La MaMa E.T.C in New York. Ms. Beltran is a dancer, choreographer, and ground-breaking performance curator committed to promoting and developing Philippine modern dance. She founded her company, Dance Forum, in 1995, and soon after established Dance Map, a network of modern dance choreographers and small companies in the Philippines. In 2006, Ms. Beltran conceptualized and organized the Wi-Fi Dance Festival, a unique independent contemporary dance festival held in cooperation with the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP). 2008 JDR 3rd Awardee and former president of CCP, Nestor O. Jardin, believes that Ms. Beltran has been essential in keeping the interest of modern dance alive in the Philippines. In New York, Ms. Beltran has observed the challenges, creative solutions, and innovative strategies involved with producing sustainable and dynamic festival platforms, which she hopes to apply to the future of her own dance programming in the Philippines.
