Edna Vida Froilan


Edna Vida Froilan is a leader in the Philippines' contemporary dance movement. A choreographer and educator, Ms. Froilan has inspired countless young dancers over the course of her career. For over two decades, Ms. Froilan served as lead dancer and then artistic director of Ballet Philippines, and in these roles, Ms. Froilan was recognized as one of the leading dance artists in the Philippines. Her full-length ballets and modern contemporary works have been performed worldwide to critical acclaim. Following her departure from Ballet Philippines, she danced, choreographed, and directed theater productions locally and internationally, and she continues to share her expertise as dance educator in creative workshops in the Philippines.

ACC funded a six-month grant to enable Ms. Froilan to research contemporary dance and theater activities, observe rehearsals, and attend classes and workshops in choreography and improvisation in New York. While in the U.S., Ms. Froilan attended the American Dance Festival, Bates Dance Festival, Lincoln Center Festival, and Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival.
