"MAM Research 002: Who Was Roberto Chabet? - Along with the Development of Contemporary Art in the Philippines"
This exhibition highlights the entirety of Chabet' s art practice, approaching it not only from the perspective of his artworks but from various angles.
With ACC grantee Maria Carina Lim Evangelista as a contributing author, this is the first monograph on the life and art of Roberto Chabet (1937 – 2013), also an ACC grantee. Arguably the most important Filipino artist, curator and teacher of the postwar generation, Chabet laid the foundations of contemporary art in the Philippines with his conceptual works that critiqued the rigid conventions of Modernism.
This exhibition commemorates the 50th anniversary of ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) by showcasing the contemporary art of the region and aims to be one of the largest Southeast Asian contemporary art exhibitions in history. The exhibition consists of 80 artworks by 86 artist groups from 10 ASEAN member countries and will be held simultaneously at 2 museums: National Art Center and Mori Art Museum. 19 ACC grantees are participating in this exhibition!
