Alexander Cortez is a senior theater specialist in Manila and a leader in the field. Mr. Cortez received his B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees from the University of the Philippines, and he now serves as a professor of theater arts at the University of the Philippines and the Artistic Director of Dulaang UP. An award-winning director and professor, Mr. Cortez has also received recognition from international groups, including fellowships from the Banff School of Fine Arts in 1996 and the British Council in 1994. A versatile actor and one of the most accomplished theater directors in the Philippines, Mr. Cortez is distinguished by his generosity of spirit and availability as a collaborator for his peers and mentor for his students.

ACC supported Mr. Cortez in his three-month intensive research period in New York, where he explored contemporary theater activities and brought back his knowledge of U.S. theatre culture to his students and colleagues in the Philippines.
