◇Event Description◇
This presentation will offer the audience insight into Cameron McKinney’s creative process behind both his solo work and his ensemble choreographic work through his New York City-based dance company, Kizuna Dance. The evening will include video screenings of McKinney’s past and present research into depicting aspects of the Japanese culture through a unique combination of contemporary dance and streetdance. Rooted in the New York City downtown dance scene’s current trends toward cross-cultural, interdisciplinary collaborations between seemingly disparate styles of movement or thought, McKinney’s presentation will also cover his ongoing research into the physical, historical, and psychological intersections of streetdance and butoh, and how this research has influenced the continued creation of his own formal dance technique. McKinney will perform an excerpt from his latest solo work, E.X.P.L.O.D.E, a hyperphysical interpolation of the seminal 1988 Japanese animated film, AKIRA.

The event will be followed by a gathering at the same venue.
