ACC kicked off this year’s summer activities with Pintô Manhattan Manila, an inaugural 24-hour art exhibition and auction that took place in the Urban Zen Gallery in New York’s West Village. The exhibition featured works by contemporary Filipino artists, with ACC grantees Dexter Fernandez (2014), Nona Garcia (2004), Riel Hilario (2012), Leeroy New (2015 and 2016), and Manuel Ocampo (2012) among them.

Proceeds from the auction benefit the Pintô Art Museum and ACC. The show was curated by Federico De Vera, together with Pintô founder and renowned neurologist Dr. Joven Cuanang – who is also an ACC Philippines Foundation (ACCPF) Trustee – as well as art historian and ACC grantee Patrick Flores (2009) and Dr. Luca Parolari.

ACC Trustees from Asia and the US took part in the festivities. In addition to Dr. Cuanang, ACC Philippines was represented by ACCPF Trustee Ma. Lourdes Locsin; Josie Cruz Natori, one of the event's Honorary Chairs and Trustee of both ACC and of ACCPF; Maribel Ongpin, President of ACCPF; and ACCPF Trustee Mercedes Zobel. ACC Trustee Hans Michael Jebsen flew in from Hong Kong and ACC Trustee Ruby Shang joined from Singapore. Also present were ACC Chairman Wendy O’Neill, ACC Trustee and event Honorary Chairman David Rockefeller, Jr., ACC Trustees Missie Rennie and Valerie Rockefeller Wayne, Tess Rances, Director of ACC Philippines, and ACC Executive Director Miho Walsh.

The evening was a bustling celebration of Philippine art accompanied by music and dancing. Several of the artists were there -- including Mr. Fernandez, whose work also graced the entryway and whose unique stickers became a conversation piece, and Mr. New, who designed the dance costumes -- and were engaged in stimulating conversations with curators and gallerists, among others. The night also included calls via skype with Loren Legarda, Senator, Chairs art and culture in the Philippine Senate; Yael Buencamino, art curator at Ateneo de Manila; Jaime de Leon, Owner of the Leon Auction House; Ana Labrador, Co-Director of the National Museum of the Philippines; and Isa Lorenzo, Owner of Silverlens Gallery, who dialed in from Manila.

More Pintô exhibitions are planned in Milan, Paris, and Tokyo.
