As part of the New Visions program, New York Classical Theatre will present a free studio reading of Hecuba and Polyxena by Amanda L. ANDREI (ACC 2024)—a bold, surreal adaptation inspired by Euripides’ tragedy and the American eugenics movement.
Following its initial New Visions workshop in 2023, this latest version of Hecuba features major revisions shaped by a year of development with actors, directors, and dramaturgs. At its heart is a Philippine-born mother and baker, struggling to piece together memories of violence and loss in a haunting journey through history, identity, and survival.
Curated by Literary Director Matthieu Chapman and Artistic Director Stephen Burdman, with casting by Stephanie Klapper, the evening highlights the voice of Andrei, a Filipina Romanian American playwright whose work centers diasporic perspectives and hidden histories.
