Utsa HAZARIKA (ACC 2017, 2018, 2020)'s public sculpture Yantra (32°N/Horizon) will be on view at the 6th edition of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale in India, along with an accompanying gallery exhibition. Working across video, installation, and sculpture, Hazarika deconstructs the total media interfaces of power, redefining the possibilities of viewing, contesting and counter-sensing regimes of political and social domination. Creating layered and fractal assemblages of media documents, citations, and field recordings, Hazarika’s practice contends with the eclipse of majoritarian rhetoric, supremacist policies, and suppression of dissent in India and in South Asian diasporic movements.
