Taiwanese Sheng player Li-Chin LI (ACC 2021) joins forces with the Oslo-based duo Nøkkelfele for a cross-cultural improvisational encounter. Nøkkelfele, formed by Sunniva Monstad(Hardingfele) and Hsiang-Yin Hsiao (Nyckelharpa), is dedicated to the exploration and reinvention of Nordic traditional music. This marks Li-Chin Li’s first collaboration with the duo and reflects her ongoing engagement with improvisation and intercultural artistic dialogue.

This collaboration is not only a fusion of instruments and styles but also a meeting of cultural vocabularies. The Sheng, with its distinctive timbre and harmonic architecture rooted in Taiwanese and East Asian traditions, enters into conversation with the long-standing sound heritage of the Hardingfele and Nyckelharpa, seeking resonance and friction between free improvisation and the textures of folk idioms.

Through this concert, Li-Chin Li continues to expand the expressive possibilities of the Sheng in contemporary contexts, inviting audiences to witness how Taiwanese and Nordic traditions can be reimagined and revitalized through sound.
