Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art marks the third anniversary of its reopening this year. Under the annual theme The Time of the Museum, this year’s collection exhibitions introduce works from the collection alongside the activities of the museum across three chapters.

Chapter 1: Time Machines　[June 27–September 23, 2026]
Chapter 2: Bundles of Time　[October 10, 2026–January 24, 2027]
Chapter 3: Time Flows Here　[February 27–June 13, 2027]
　
　
The first exhibition in the series is titled Chapter 1: Time Machines.

Artworks contain many different kinds of time. These include the time of the events they depict, the time in which they were created, and the time of those of us encountering them today. As artworks are passed down across generations, they continue to create new encounters and connections. Exhibitions that bring together works from different periods, as well as museum collections that preserve and care for works over long spans of time, can also be seen as practices that connect past, present, and future.
