ACC mourns the recent passing of ACC Life Trustee Mr. Isaac Shapiro. Mr. Shapiro was the first member of ACC’s Board, joining in 1980 and meaningfully serving through his transition to Life Trustee in 2009.

He was a remarkable person and led a distinguished and illustrious career in law. In 1977, he opened the first American law office in Japan as a partner at Milbank, Twee, Hadley & McCloy. In 1986, he joined Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom and launched the firm’s international practice. He remained with Skadden until his retirement in 2001 and was admitted as an avocat honoraire in France.

We thank Mr. Shapiro for his 45 years of dedication and commitment to ACC’s mission of advancing cultural exchange and fostering international dialogue between the U.S. and Asia. He will be deeply missed, and we extend our sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.
