In Memoriam: Yayoi Kusama (ACC 1964, 1996)

The Asian Cultural Council (ACC) remembers the true visionary and global icon, Yayoi Kusama. An extraordinary voice whose art transcended geographic and conceptual boundaries, Kusama’s fearless exploration of infinity, self-obliteration, and the avant-garde changed the landscape of modern art forever.

In 1996, ACC supported the Mattress Factory in bringing a new Kusama installation to the US after her return to Japan in 1977 abd during a resurgence of her work in large-scale installation formats.
