Echoes in Between: Pernang as Living Archive is a contemporary art and heritage exhibition that explores Penang as a living archive shaped by memory, everyday cultural practices, artistic responses, and community narratives. Bringing together artists, photographers, architects, and cultural practitioners, the exhibition examines how heritage continues to evolve through lived experiences rather than remaining confined to monuments or official histories.
Featuring paintings, drawings, batik, sculpture, urban sketches, photography, community stories, and salvaged architectural fragments, the exhibitions reflects on themes of belonging, place, loss, continuity, and care amid rapid urban transformation. Rather than presenting a singular history Penang, Echoes in Between invites audiences to encounter the many personal and collective narratives that continue to shape the city's cultural identity.
Curated by Kenneth Wong See Huat, the exhibition reflects his ongoing research into cultural landscapes, community memory, and heritage interpretation. Presented during the George Town Festival season, Echoes in Between invites audiences to consider the archive not as a static repository of the past, but as an ongoing practice of care sustained through creativity, participation, and everyday life.
