Five Views, curated by T3 PHOTO FESTIVAL TOKYO, is an exhibition that brings together the perspectives of a new generation of photographers. Featuring five artists and collectives—THE COPY TRAVELERS, Kenji Chiga, Mayumi Suzuki, Eri Minamikawa, and Shohei Miyachi—the exhibition presents diverse approaches to photography, exploring its intersections with thought, narrative, and society.
Drawing on the Japanese concept of hakoniwa (miniature garden), which envisions the world as a microcosm, the exhibition brings together works that explore various aspects of contemporary society and human experience. These include reflections on memories of natural disasters and changing landscapes; representations of contemporary family life through the symbolic space of the dining table; investigations into social structures grounded in research; explorations of the self through the body and performance; and questions surrounding the reproduction of images.
While revealing different facets of contemporary Japan, these artistic practices also open up new possibilities for photographic expression.
Founded in Tokyo in 2017, T3 PHOTO FESTIVAL TOKYO seeks to bring photography into urban spaces through festivals, fairs, and production support, while providing artists with opportunities to present their work internationally. This exhibition features artists selected through T3 NEW TALENT, one of the festival's initiatives supporting emerging photographic talent.
