Chiga explores the less visible structures and dynamics embedded within society. Grounded in research, he creates works that incorporate photography and other experimental forms of expression. 
During the fellowship, he will explore theatrical practices in India, visiting acting classes run by people in economically disadvantaged communities and connecting with those who support their activities. Through the act of taking on the roles of others, he will explore alternative roles beyond those assigned by society, as well as the meaning of communicating messages to society through theater as a form of expression.

Profile  Kenji CHIGA 
Using photography as his primary medium, Chiga creates visual artworks that explore the invisible structures and dynamics embedded within society, and the boundaries between reality and fiction and between the individual and the collective. He makes dummy books throughout the process, from research to completion, using the book form as a way to approach his work as a whole. He has received numerous awards, including 1_WALL Grand Prix, The Best Emerging Photographer Award at the Dali International Photography Festival, the Best Dummy Book Award at the Singapore International Photography Festival, and T3 NEW TALENT. His photobook HIJACK GENI was published by IANN BOOKS in 2024. Recent notable exhibitions include The Gaze of the Present: Contemporary Japanese Photography vol. 21 (Tokyo Photographic Art Museum, 2024). He graduated from the School of Engineering Science at Osaka University.
