November 01, 2026 - November 28, 2026
"At Random" opens on November 1 to mark the launch of "seeen Harajuku," a new art space in Omotesando, Tokyo.
Spanning the entire building—four floors and a stairwell—designed by Nawa and Sandwich, the exhibition brings together works from a wide range of series, including the new PixCell-Memorandum, around the central motif of "fragments of memory." Nawa’s creative process unfolds through the continual intersection of images, materials, and textures, each feeding back into the others. While seemingly random, these elements form organic connections. In this exhibition, these dynamic developments emerge in dialogue with the spatial experience of the architecture. Each work is presented through a composition or mode of display that differs from previous presentations, allowing visitors to encounter the works unexpectedly as they move up and down through the cave-like interior.

October 03, 2026
Bae Bong-gi was brought to Okinawa from colonial Korea and forced to serve soldiers as a “comfort woman.” She walked day after day all over postwar Okinawa, never feeling settled. She passed away on October 18, 1991 without ever returning home. This October, her spirit will be back to life on the Noh stage as we memorialize the 35th anniversary of her passing. Based on House with a Red Tile Roof by Kawata Fumiko, Bae Bong-gi tells of trauma, pain, and endurance. It meditates on one survivor’s harsh experiences, but also on how all survivors’ unique stories might best be honored. Noh’s blend of austere staging and emotive richness draws the imagination deep into the characters’ inner lives, and is thus a uniquely powerful vehicle for sharing human experience.

This history is itself a global history of colonialism, woven from spices and imperial expansion, dispersal and fusion.
