AZE ONG’S “Transcendence” at ART FAIR PHILIPPINES 2022

March 23, 2022 - April 01, 2022

Visual-Performance artist and ACC Fellow Aze Ong joins the best in Philippine contemporary art at the annual Art Fair Philippines with her piece “Transcendence.”

“Fiber is my weapon,” remarks Aze Ong, one of the foremost artists delving into, expanding, and re-interpreting the traditions and techniques of craft. Her mode of creation is crocheting, which is inflected with the usual feminine associations but, in the hands of the artist, transforms into a malleable vehicle through which solitude, self-regeneration, spirituality may be conducted.

One of Ong’s biggest works to date, “Transcendence” is charged by a highly generative and intuitive process, which the artist learned from her observations of the weavers of the Talaandig indigenous group in Bukidnon.

She views her work as a way to negotiate the physical and the spiritual worlds, the crocheting process a necessary incantation permitting the transference of energies between the two. Draped, hanging, and undulating in space, “Transcendence” symbolizes the web-relations of all things, that whatever we may have lost is but transformed and vivid elsewhere. REMINISCENCE by Anton del Castillo at The Manila'Bang Show: Artfest International

December 08, 2021 - December 12, 2021

ACC Grantee Anton del Castillo joins “The Manila’Bang Show: Artfest International” with his show pieces entitled “Reminiscence.” Over 170 artists and 400 artworks gathered for the show organized by Galerie Roberto in partnership with Artsper Europe and Art Moments Jakarta.

The special weeklong festival that features some of the leading contemporary artists in the Philippines and around the globe such as Vietnam, Indonesia, Ireland, Japan, Malaysia, Netherlands, and India, also presents curated art talks and industry dialogues.

Describing Anton’s works, excerpts from the notes by Chesca Santiago reads “With expecting gazes and restless hands, it is this terrain of the unyielding past that Anton Del Castillo traverses in Reminiscence. In his navigation of the contours of reminiscence, Del Castillo confronts its many forms: at times, to look back is not a desire to go back. It is mere remembrance of what has gone sans the yearning for the past to bleed into the now. But more crucial in Del Castillo’s probe into reminiscence is its intersections with yearning - longing and the ensuing coping amid hunger that refuses to be indulged."

The show may be viewed on-site from 8-12 December 2021 at the Festival Mall in Alabang, Muntinlupa City.
